This Sunday, March 10th, WordPress.com VIP will be hosting a charity event in Austin, Texas. The city, which is known for its sounds, atmosphere and laid-back community will be the site for the South By SouthWest (SXSW) music and film festivals that will take place beginning Friday, March 8th, and lasting through Sunday, March 17th.
Automattic Happiness Bar
According to the blog post published by Steph Yiu on March 4th, “Automattic will also be hosting a Happiness Bar at the SXSW Trade Show. Stop by to pick up some swag, chat about WordPress, get technical support, or meet some of our colleagues.
And finally, members from the WordPress.com VIP team will be there! We’d love to catch up with you in person. If you or your colleagues will be at SXSW, be sure to let us know by emailing me or filling out the form below.”
SXSW Event Details
The 10-day event is comprised of three main categories: Interactive (March 8–12), Film (March 8–16) and Music (March 12–17). The Automattic team will be set up at Stands 725, 727, 729, 731, 828, and 830. The official Event Page states that “WordPress is a flexible publishing platform that’s simple enough for a brand-new blogger but powerful enough for the biggest sites in the world. If you’ve visited a blog or website recently, you’ve been on a WordPress-powered site: 17.6% of the web runs on WordPress, from the tiniest of personal blogs to full-scale sites for media juggernauts with millions of daily hits.
From CNN to Jay-Z, The New York Times to TED, TechCrunch to TIME, WordPress is the CMS designers, developers, and organizations turn to when they need a scalable, streamlined, secure solution to creating stunning online content. The scale of the WordPress community means that there are designers and developers to suit all tastes, needs, and budgets — and because we’re open-source, there are people all over the world making improvements and building new tools every day.
The simplicity of WordPress also means that solo creators can be publishing in minutes without ever having to look at a line of code. Whether they’re creating elegant media galleries or using customization tools to spice up an off-the-rack template, WordPress’s user-friendly interface makes anyone look like a web pro. From free software to run on your own host to free and paid hosted solutions, WordPress powers your online home — whatever you want to build.”
Charity = Water
The charity cause is simple: water. The first ever Party for the People will be co-hosted by Sailthru and begins this Sunday at 7:00pm (Central Time). The location will be Stubb’s BBQ (801 Red River St. – Austin, Texas 78701: +1 512-480-8341). Live performances will be provided by Dawes, The Lone Bellow and The Tontons, plus there will be other surprises programmed for the evening.
The goal is to raise $10,000 by June 30th to fully fund a water project through charity. Sailthru and Automattic have promised to donate $10 for each birthday pledge that is made over the course of the evening. The first 100 people to pledge their birthday at the event will be given a VIP Wristband and free drinks. No badge is necessary to attend.
